New Fabrics!

Oh, mommas... check out these fabulous new fabric collections recently added at Javis Davis! The crib configurator isn't up and running yet for these new fabrics, but I can certainly help you put together some fabulous bedding and accessories.

I am loving the sassy prints in these two collections...

...but take a look at the sharp colors in this new Zoology collection. What a great alternative for a boy! Love it.

As always, contact me with any questions on the products at Javis Davis or to order! I love to meet up with Atlanta moms locally, but I'm available by phone or email to mommas everywhere.

Brand Favorites: Hanna Andersson

What's one of my favorite things about fall? Little girls running around in colorful tights. If I wouldn't get some strange looks, I might wear these myself. But it's a little harder to get away with once you get out of grade school...

And if you ask me, the authority on fabulously fun tights for girls is Hanna Andersson. This is a favorite brand of mine that's been around for over 20 years. There are a lot of "Mommy & Me" type looks in the catalog - not my favorite. But if you can get past that, the kids' clothes are just delicious. But especially tasty this season is their huge selection of tights and leggings.

Atlanta moms, you can find Hanna Andersson stores at Perimeter Mall and Phipps Plaza. I do encourage you to visit a store if you have one nearby. Some catalogs don't do a brand justice and I really think this is one of them. The colors and fabrics are so much more vibrant in person.

How fun are these colors? Even with the dreary, rainy weather we've had here this week, you can't help but smile when you see a little girl in a pair of these.

Rockin' it.

Maybe you're too tired and swollen these days to stand up through a 2-hour concert, but you can still rock the t-shirt, mommas. I'm not a huge fan of maternity novelty and message tees, but I can't help but love these bump-ready old school band frocks...

I've got my eye on the Billy Idol one below for sure. Slap that on top of a pair of white hot jeans? Holy hot momma... consider that one added to my maternity wish list!

Check out Unbuttoned Contemporary Maternity for a fab collection of rock 'n roll looks. You can never start too early with music education, you know.

Oh, the choices...

It's a rough life, mommas... having so many fab collections of fabric to peruse. How's a girl to decide? And just when you think you've got it narrowed down, the gals at Javis Davis throw some new collections in the mix and you're back to square one. Take a look at some of the latest additions...

Whether you're designing a crib set, big kid or adult bedding, or just a sweet bib and burpee set, there's something to suit everyone's personal style. I'm personally LOVING the new Koi collection. The sharp red and black with the pool blue accents - such a great look! New collections are continually being added, so check back here often. As always, contact me with any questions you have on the fabrics and products at Javis Davis.

It's in the details.

Baby furniture? Check. Crib bedding? Check, check. Closet full of baby clothes? Triple check. You've got the basics covered, but it's really the little details that can take your nursery from "aw, that's cute" to "Whoah, this is amazing!" It's the original pieces hanging on the wall, the personal touches on shelves, the light fixtures, the creative use of paint on walls, unexpected details in trim and other accessories that really bring the WOW-factor to a room. Though many see these as mere afterthoughts, I find the most fun in the details. It's in those details that style becomes truly personal.

One easy little detail that can add loads of pizazz to a child's room or bath? Some fabulous knobs, of course! There are a ton of great knobs and drawer pulls out there that can take a rather Plain Jane piece of furniture and turn it into something really fun. I especially love the look of fun knobs and pulls in bathrooms. Tiny little spaces welcome a fun little punch of color and this is an easy way to do it. If you've got a big chest or changing table with several drawers, you can mix and match some colorful knobs to play it up.

There are tons of fun knobs out there, but they're not all cute. I imagine a lot of the cookie cutter bedding sets that have lamps and wall art and stuffed animals to match also have drawer knobs to complete the ensemble. But let's think outside the box a bit here, mommas, and not get overly matchy-matchy. Leave the teddy bear knobs on the shelf and come with me.

To give you a taste of some truly fabulous knobs, here's a few retailers I personally love when it comes to stylin' up a good drawer or cabinet...

These simply sweet knobs are the creation of Sophie Lane Drawer Couture. All knobs are $20 and they even do custom designs! There's a one-time $45 charge for any custom design, but you can order as many knobs as you need (at $20 each). So if you've got a funky color combo going on in your child's room, you can have them create the perfect knob to finish it off.

All of Sophie Lane's knobs are the same size - 1.5 inch round which 1 inch projection. The knobs are wooden with original artwork applied to the tops and coated with a high-gloss sealant. So they have a glassy porcelain like appearance, but aren't as fragile. Super easy to clean, too.

So now that you're warmed up, let me introduce you to MacKenzie-Childs. Hand-painted heaven is what this is. MacKenzie-Childs has a whole slew of fab home accessories and furniture, all the way down to these gorgeous hand-painted knobs...

Not only are the colors fun, but they've got several different shapes and sizes. Whether you're going for a traditional look or something more whimsical, you can't go wrong with MacKenzie-Childs.

How super fun are these? These MacKenzie-Childs knobs range from $18 to $22.

If you're feeling the hand-painted look, you're also sure to love these colorful round knobs by Lulu and Daisy. Like Sophie Lane, they also do custom orders! These are a bit more affordable though, starting at only $10 a pop. Customization is an extra $5 per knob. All Lulu and Daisy knobs are hand-painted and come in two different sizes.

And for a look that's a little different, check out these fab jeweled knobs by Susan Goldstick. These whimsical knobs and pulls make me think of Alice in Wonderland...

These knobs have a lot of great detail and, rightfully so, will set you back a little more than the simpler knobs. Susan Goldstick's collection starts at $22 per knob and quickly climbs. But aren't these pieces gorgeous? Do be careful with the more pointy knobs. We don't want Junior poking his eye out as soon as he becomes mobile. If you like this look, consider using it as a fancy-schmancy hook or on a cabinet far out of baby's reach.

Susan Goldstick also has a great collection of drawer pulls that coordinate with the knobs. Talk about some serious fun...

And hey, if you're a DIY gal, you can easily create your own unique knobs. It's a simple way to really bring some personal style to your baby's room. You can't help but smile when you reach for one of these knobs... even when you're on the mad hunt for some baby wipes.

Brand Favorites: Zutano

Isn't that a fun name? For years, Zutano has been one of my all-time favorite brands of clothing and accessories for tiny tots. I've given many a Zutano gift to my expectant momma friends. Cotton never looked so happy, if you ask me. Their array of fabulously fun prints can't help but make you smile!

Zutano was created by two New York artists who were on the hunt for something more fun for their own child to wear. Fast forward 20 years, and now you have the beautiful Zutano collection, made up of cotton basics in endless colors and prints. The creative color combinations give their pieces a modern look and are rarely matched among all the clothing you find in the big name stores. All the pieces are intended to be mixed and matched - which makes this collection not only fun, but very functional.

Even better, these cotton basics are surprisingly affordable. Sure, you can spend less, but mommas, you can definitely spend more. Plus all the moms I've talked to that are fans of Zutano have commented about how well their products hold up. If you're looking for a great gift for a new mom-to-be, Zutano is a great place to start. The colorful prints make especially great gifts for moms who are waiting to find out baby's gender... these color combos are way more fun than yellow and green!

You're sure to find Zutano products in your local baby boutiques, but here are some online retailers that carry the brand...

Atlanta moms, here are just a few great spots around town where you can find Zutano...

Sprout (my personal favorite in the city - big selection!)

Lighten up, will ya?

Another way to put some real pizzaz in your child's nursery is to get creative with light fixtures. Your typical big bedding suppliers aren't always a big help with this... they've got the cookie cutter table lamps to match your crib ensemble, but that just makes me want to hit *snooze*, roll over and go back to sleep.

Lighting is often overlooked, no matter the room. Fun fixtures and proper lighting can bring dramatic effect to a room, so take some time to find the perfect pieces for your most perfect nursery. If you've got a standard ceiling mounted dome light or fan in the center of the nursery, consider replacing it with a youthful chandelier. There are a lot of affordable pendant and chandelier fixtures for children's rooms. Lighting is something you can spend a lot of money on, but it's definitely not necessary.

The Pottery Barn family of stores is one of my favorites for home accessories. Both Pottery Barn Kids and PB Teen have a great selection of unique lighting for children's rooms. I actually think PB Teen has the better collection of the two, so don't go thinking the "teen" version only sells bean bags and locker accessories. They actually have a wide array of items that would be very fitting in a nursery. Another budget-friendly favorite? Crate and Barrel's Land of Nod. Here are some great, affordable options for chandeliers...

Pottery Barn Kids Ella Chandelier in white, $129

Land of Nod Whoopsie Daisy Chandelier, $119

Pottery Barn Kids Mia Chandelier, $169

PB Teen Rose Pop Chandelier, $129.99 on sale (from $299)

PB Teen Chalet Chandelier, $99.99-$150 on sale (from $199)

PB Teen Preppy Bouquet Chandelier, $159 on sale (from $199)

Posh Tots also has a huge selection of chandeliers, but you'll pay a lot more. It's a great place to browse for design inspiration, so have a look. They've got endless options for lighting and tons of other accessories. But this little diddy alone will set you back $690...

Another creative look for lighting is a wall-mounted sconce. The cool thing about wall fixtures is they serve two important roles: lighting and wall décor. Going for a nautical feel? I love the classic look of this old fashioned lantern...

Pottery Barn Kids Fisherman Wall Lamp, $69

A simple wall shade is also a great look that's really versatile. You can switch out the shade for an entirely new feel within seconds.

Pottery Barn Kids Cortland Sconce, $79 (shade sold separately)

Some funky animal print shades on this great wall sconce from Ballard Designs would look fabulous in a nursery if you're wanting to get a little wild!

Ballard Designs Davenport Sconce, $129 (shades sold separately)

See how fun lighting can be? I hope you have some new bright ideas to up the *fabulous* in your nusery. But fixtures alone are half the battle... make sure you play around with different bulbs to get the proper lighting in each spot of your child's room. In a nursery, consider adding a dimmer switch. It's incredibly cheap and easy to do on your own. As with any lighting project, do take precautions and consider hiring an electrician - especially if you're doing fixed wall sconces that will require special wiring. Atlanta area gals, I have a great electrician for such a need, so feel free to contact me for info.

New Fabric Collections!

If you were browsing around Javis Davis' site last week, you may've noticed two new collections that popped up. First, let's discuss how stinkin' cute this new "Robot" fabric group is... I love the rocket and robot figures in the main fabric, and the collection as a whole highlights one of my favorite color combos - orange and pool blue. Orange is such a fun color, but it often gets left in the crayon box. It's time to break it out!

Also recently added at Javis Davis is the beautiful "Bollywood" collection with this gorgeous paisley print leading the pack. I am loving the warm, deep purple mixed in with some cooler shades of pink and violet, and a splash of (once again) orange! A little girl with this fabulous bedding is sure to have some sass. Feast your eyes on a couple of crib bedding combos designed with the Bollywood fabrics...

Hop on Javis Davis and play around with these fun new collections and see what you can come up with... the possibilities are endless. And don't forget - you don't have to use all the fabrics in any given collection. Notice I didn't use the paisley print at all in that last crib design. You can work with as many or as few of the fabrics as you want. It's all about creating the perfect look for you and your little one!
